Set Is Prepared For The Churchill Cup
posted in rugby league |The Barclays Churchill Cup, is the alliance tournament played between the RFU, USA Rugby and Rugby Canada, and it will be held in five different cities in England. It is going to be the first time that this tournament is being staged in England and the kickoff will be on May the 18th at Edgeley Park in Stockport home of the Sale Sharks.
The commercial manager for the Sale Sharks, Nathan Bombrys, said "We are very excited to be hosting the opening match of the 2007 Barclay’s Churchill Cup. The presence of England, featuring so many world class players, provides both England and Sale Sharks with an excellent opportunity to reach a new audience of sports’.
The Exeter Chiefs will host the two games of Ireland A’s pool stages matches, against Canada on May the 19th and the New Zealand Maori on May the 29th. Tony Rowe the executive chief for the Exeter Chiefs said ‘We are equally delighted with the news that we are to host two further international matches during the Barclays Churchill Cup’.
The other three locations are Henley, Franklin’s Gardens which is home for the Northampton Saints and Twickenham; all the six teams will play on finals day at Twickenham on June the 2nd.
Terry Burwell, tournament director for the Barclays Churchill Cup, said "We are delighted to be able to offer so many rugby fans the chance to see top international teams in action in their region. Rugby fever will hopefully be building as we head towards the Rugby World Cup 2007 this September and the Barclays Churchill Cup offers sports fans a taster of some of the young hopefuls in contention for the World Cup itself’.
