Rugby is not as violent or wild as many people perceive it to be. The sport relies heavily on the skill and cooperation of all the players. It is not some free for all madness.

Rugby is a forefather for football. The goal is the same. To get the ball across a goal line, or make a touchdown. While some points can be earned from kicking the ball the majority of points will be made through cooperation as team members pass the ball around. British rugby is a contact sport but it does not mean anyone playing will be constantly covered in bruises and laid up with injuries. People think of rugby as a violent sport but the rate of injuries is about the same as any other sport. Like with American football protective gear is worn and players learn how to minimize the risk of injury. Size does not matter in British rugby as it does in football. It is common for the teams to go out for drinks after a game and enjoy themselves. It shows the game was just that and no need for hard feelings. Rugby is a rough game but the men who play it are gentlemen. Rugby is considered a game for men of the upper and middle class and scholars though league rugby is played by working class. So it is considered a sport for gentlemen even though it may not seem too gentlemanly on the surface. Rugby is an integral part of the British culture. One misconception might be that Rugby is simply a more violent form of foot ball. Rugby has a long history and appears to have started in ancient Greece and developed over time into the modern game of Rugby. Rugby is widespread and is played in most British schools. Unlike football the ball cannot be passed forward by some players and instead the only way to move the ball forward is to run with it or kick it. Possession of a ball can be contested after a tackle. After six tackles possession of the ball is given to the other team but this is not the case for theUnion counterpart.
